Chine-Colle Printmaking with Paloma NÚÑEZ-REGUEIRO

Chine-colle is a technique, used in conjunction with printmaking processes, like linoleum carving. It results in a two-layered paper support: a tissue-thin paper, cut to the size of the printing plate, and a larger, thicker support paper below. Both the tissue and the support sheet are placed on top of the inked plate and run together through the printing press. The process creates a subtle, delicate backdrop to the printed image. Paloma will guide you in this step by step process to create colorful prints made with only one carved plate.

This is an image based linoleum carving workshop. Come prepared with ideas of what you’d like your print to look like and/or images that you plan to carve. If you have an idea involving text, keep in mind that this will need to be hand carved from the linoleum material.

Linoleum carving is a common method used by printers to create illustrations and other shape-based elements in their print projects.

Cost of workshop includes materials, instruction by S-R staff and takeaway prints. Paper in this workshop is from French Paper Company, a small Michigan Paper Mill around for more than 140 years.

Wood Engraving - An Adventure in End-Grain Printmaking with Jim Horton

We will be exploring the printmaking process of wood engraving (often referred to as the “lost” method of printmaking). It has rich historical roots, and in many ways, brought illustration to the mass media in the 19th century. It remains today, a viable artistic path to personal expression. It is characterized by fine detail and striking contrasts. The tools, called gravers, cut into a polished surface of type-high wood. It works particularly well with letterpress type. In summary, this class will instruct in the drawing and engraving on wood and edition proofing on a press. No previous experience is necessary. Materials and presses will be poised for edition printing.

This is a two day workshop. Please be sure you can attend both sessions before registering.

Saturday, September 17th, 10am-4pm

Sunday, September 18th, 10am-4pm

Price: $225

Class Size: Maximum 10
